Nottingham Forest started their 2017-18 Championship campaign off with a 1-0 win over Millwall on Friday night, with new signing Barrie McKay stealing the show with a wonder-goal to claim victory for the hosts.

City Ground boss Mark Warburton worked with the Scottish winger during their mutual time at Rangers and landed the 22-year-old for a bargain £500,000 from the Ibrox outfit earlier this summer.

A second-half strike from McKay has the Forest fans excited about the Paisley-born attacker’s potential in a Reds shirt this season, but supporters of the Glasgow giants were feeling different emotions after the star’s heroics.

Rangers were forced into a situation where they had to sell the Scotland international, who refused a new contract with the Ibrox side and was in the final year of his deal with Pedro Caixinha’s men.

After the Portuguese trainer replaced Warburton in the Rangers hotseat, first-team opportunities were few and far between for McKay, who was seemingly not part of the new coach’s plans.

Caixinha has since looked to bring in new wingers to replace McKay, with the manager’s compatriots Dalcio and Daniel Candeias added to the Gers ranks.

However, a section of the Rangers supporters have expressed their frustration with the Rangers board in selling McKay after his Forest goal – and especially for such a low fee.

Others that follow the Ibrox outfit were less reflective on their former attacker’s debut in Nottingham, with some Gers fans questioning the wideman’s attitude.

While McKay’s ability on the ball was there for all to see during his time at Rangers, his temperament and willingness to fight for the cause were found wanting on plenty of occasions.

The Forest fans were quick to laud the Scot for his excellent debut in English football, but the supporters of the Scottish giants were filled with mixed emotions – here are the best tweets from the Ibrox faithful.
