Rangers fans were full of praise after new signing Alfredo Morelos scored his first goals for the club during their convincing 6-0 hammering of Dunfermline Athletic in the Scottish League Cup.

The Colombian grabbed a brace as Pedro Caixinha’s side eased into the quarter-finals, where they will play Partick Thistle.

He came on as a late substitute during the Glasgow club’s opening league game of the season but played a central role throughout this match.

Morelos notched his first goal in a Rangers shirt in the 24th minute, after Kenny Miller and Bruno Alves had already put them in the clear.

After James Tavernier and Daniel Candeias also netted, he completed the scoring with his second strike late in the second half.

His first came from a pass from Miller and he reacted quickly to slot home his second after a shot was parried by Dunfermline goalkeeper Sean Murdoch.

Morelos was subsequently named as the man of the match, with the only blemish on his night being the yellow card he received for his first goal celebration.

However, even that did not detract from his praise among fans, some of whom even lauded him for jumping into the crowd after scoring.

Rangers dominated the game, enjoying 65 percent of possession, and getting 21 shots away – nine of them hitting the target.

It was a case of a job well done for Caixinha’s men, who made it two domestic wins out of two.

They opened their Premiership campaign with a 2-1 victory away at Motherwell and now look forward to a home tie against Hibernian this weekend.

The performance of Morelos in particular excited Rangers fans on the night and following the match, Caixinha says he expects this brace of goals to be the first of many from the forward.

And fans – many of whom felt he needed a goal to settle – took to Twitter to express their satisfaction with his performance.

Here are some of the best tweets.
