Glasgow Rangers were beaten 4-3 by Spartak Moscow on Thursday night, however, fans praised one individual for his performance on social media after the game.

Steven Gerrard’s side would have known that a victory would have given them a real chance of qualifying for the next stage of the Europa League.

However, their performance overall was rather disappointing, as the defence were guilty of making a number of mistakes throughout the match.

The Light Blues took an early lead through a Roman Eremenko before Lorenzo Melgarejo headed to level the tie for the hosts.

The visitors then restored their lead just five minutes later when Daniel Candeias scored an outstanding goal, however, they were undone when Connor Goldson put the ball in his own net.

Glenn Middleton then got Rangers back in front before half-time, before Alfredo Morelos had a goal controversially ruled out for offside.

For the third time, Spartak Moscow levelled the tie once again through Luiz Adriano before Sofiane Hanni gave them the lead a minute later and gave them a memorable win in front of their home crowd.

Fans were angry with the way their side performed on the night, however, one man was singled out on Twitter for some praise.

Allan McGregor made a number of saves in the game and kept the Light Blues in the match for as long as possible.

The goalkeeper was kept busy throughout the match and supporters took to the social media site to praise him for his display, with many claiming he was their man of the match.

Here are some of their reactions:
