Glasgow Rangers were beaten 4-3 by Spartak Moscow on Thursday night, however, fans praised one individual for his performance on social media after the game.
Steven Gerrard’s side would have known that a victory would have given them a real chance of qualifying for the next stage of the Europa League.
However, their performance overall was rather disappointing, as the defence were guilty of making a number of mistakes throughout the match.
The Light Blues took an early lead through a Roman Eremenko before Lorenzo Melgarejo headed to level the tie for the hosts.
The visitors then restored their lead just five minutes later when Daniel Candeias scored an outstanding goal, however, they were undone when Connor Goldson put the ball in his own net.
Glenn Middleton then got Rangers back in front before half-time, before Alfredo Morelos had a goal controversially ruled out for offside.
For the third time, Spartak Moscow levelled the tie once again through Luiz Adriano before Sofiane Hanni gave them the lead a minute later and gave them a memorable win in front of their home crowd.
Fans were angry with the way their side performed on the night, however, one man was singled out on Twitter for some praise.
Allan McGregor made a number of saves in the game and kept the Light Blues in the match for as long as possible.
The goalkeeper was kept busy throughout the match and supporters took to the social media site to praise him for his display, with many claiming he was their man of the match.
Here are some of their reactions:
Regardless of the defending, regardless of the disallowed goal, we weren’t good enough all over the pitch. Once again McGregor best player on the park. Typical rangers atm. 🤷♂️🤷♂️

Alan Mcgregor is the best Keeper to ever pull on a Rangers Jersey.

Even worse second half lad. Mcgregor was heroic n the defence still couldn't get a grip to give hime a break.

Europa League is a free hit for us, Probably the reason we excel under no expectation and play some of our best stuff on that stage.
Saying that, Still gutted we couldn't get anything from that match, Deserved a point as both defences were shocking, McGregor MOTM for me.

Very disappointing to score 3 goals away and still be defeated. Going forward tremendous. Defensively atrocious especially Flanagan. Allan McGregor is just incredible. A real Rangers Goalie. We go again – 2 big games to come. This campaign has shown anything is possible 🇬🇧

Serious questions over Flanagan, Katic, Ejaria and Tavernier not much better – Spartak were awful but Rangers desperately awful. McGregor must have the patience of a saint (not) with that lot of dung in front of him.
