Glasgow Rangers started their 2017-18 Scottish league campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Motherwell at Fir Park on Sunday.

Summer signing Graham Dorrans was the man of the moment, scoring twice to give Pedro Caixinha’s men a victorious start to the new season.

Rangers played well in patches and looked dangerous going forward, especially in the first half, with the Glasgow side fielding a 4-4-2 formation.

A handful of new players got their first taste of Scottish domestic football, with Portuguese winger Daniel Candeias one of those to get the nod to start by Caixinha.

The former Benfica forward drifted in and out of the game, operating from the right flank and featuring for the whole 90 minutes in the win.

Candeias’ distribution with the ball at his feet was clever at times, while he looked to get to the byline at every possibility.

On the other hand, the Portuguese wideman was caught out on a number of occasions on the back foot as Motherwell got forward and was guilty of a lack of end product at times.

Candeias has arrived at Ibrox with a lot of potential, with the Gers fans having high hopes for their summer recruit.

However, with Barrie McKay sold to make room for the Portuguese attacker, there is extra pressure on the 29-year-old to deliver in Scotland.

The Rangers fans have been vocal about Candeias’ performance at Fir Park but it appears that the travelling support are divided in their opinion of the new winger.

While some were quick to praise the Portuguese attacker and feel that he will connect with the passion of the Gers supporters, others were not impressed with his performance against Motherwell.
