Glasgow Rangers announced the signing of Connor Goldson from Brighton and Hove Albion on Thursday afternoon, and their fans have taken no time in getting onto Twitter to welcome the new man.

The defender was the sixth addition to the squad under Steven Gerrard, and feels one of the more significant, given that the former Shrewsbury Town man has given up fighting for a Premier League spot to move to Ibrox.

Goldson has joined the Gers for an undisclosed fee and has signed a four-year deal with the Glasgow giants, so he is signing up to the plans under the Liverpool legend for the long-term.

The 25-year-old had preventative heart surgery in February last year, but has recovered fully and been involved in the Brighton set up since then, however a shortage of game time has led to him leaving the Amex Stadium for more regular action.

The defender, who can play in the centre of defence or operate at right-back, moved to the Sussex club from Shrewsbury in 2015 and went on to make 42 appearances for the Seagulls, scoring three times and being part of the squad that won promotion to the Premier League in 2016-17.

He featured three times in the top flight last term, so he takes plenty of experience with him to Ibrox and will be expected to make a significant impact with the Gers upon his arrival.

Gerrard is undergoing something of an overhaul of his squad as he looks to have Rangers challenging on a number of fronts next season, with the aim of closing the gap on rivals Celtic.

Goodson certainly represents someone with the calibre to achieve that aim, and his arrival has certainly impressed the Gers fan base, many of whom took to social media to welcome their new man.
