Scottish champions Celtic took a huge step towards qualifying for the Champions League group stage when they beat FK Sarajevo in the first leg of their opening tie, and after the contest their fans reacted to what they saw on social media.

This early in the campaign few knew what to expect from Neil Lennon’s Bhoys side, and in a tricky environment for playing football, this had all the hallmarks of a tough night at the office for the Glasgow giants.

Celtic held themselves together well though, and showed a professionalism to get in and get the job done, and take a huge leap into the next round of qualifying courtesy of a 3-1 away victory.

Lennon has been frustrated in the transfer market this summer, so he started with something of a makeshift Bhoys defence, and things looked a bit edgy when the home side took the lead on the half hour.

Celtic were not behind for long though as Mikey Johnston levelled the scores, already highlighting his huge talent this early in the campaign, which will have delighted the Celtic Park boss.

The Bhoys all but put the tie to bed in the second half as Odsonne Edouard opened his account for the season, before Scott Sinclair increased the lead the Scottish side will take back to Glasgow with them.

While the Celtic fans wait for what they hope will be a number of signings ahead of the domestic campaign getting underway next month, they were delighted to see that those already in place retained the quality that took them to a third successive treble last term.

One of those key performers was Johnston, and the Bhoys faithful wasted no time in raving about him on social media when the full time whistle went in this European tie.
