Following West Ham United’s disappointing loss to Wolves on Saturday, pundit Jamie Redknapp singled out one player in particular for criticism.
In his Daily Mail Column, Redknapp laid into the Hammers claiming their policy of spending over £100million in the summer transfer window hasn’t improved the club.
He was especially disappointed in the efforts of Marko Arnautovic, writing:
‘Marko Arnautovic is the star man but sometimes when I watch him I wonder whether he is playing for himself and not the team.
‘How can Pellegrini motivate him to become the snarling forward who under David Moyes struck fear into defenders?’
West Ham are sat rock bottom of the Premier League, without a win since the new season began and pressure is mounting on Manuel Pellegrini.
The Hammer’s defeat to Wolves followed losses at the hands of Arsenal, Bournemouth and Liverpool, scoring just two goals in those four outings.
Despite Redknapp’s criticism, Arnautovic is the only West Ham player to find the net this season, with one of those goals coming from the spot.
That took his Premier League tally to 13 in his 35 appearances for the Hammers since joining the club last season.
Despite his two goals this campaign, Arnautovic’s attitude can be a problem and West Ham fans will be hoping he can help spark a reaction following the international break.
