Arsenal start their Champions League campaign on Tuesday night with the toughest fixture in Group A – an away day at Ligue 1 powerhouses Paris Saint-Germain.

Most people expect these two to progress to the knockout stages, but the clash at the Parc des Princes will be an excellent early season challenge for the Premier League team.

Arsene Wenger’s men started their Champions League group stage slowly last season and needed heroics in the final matches to make it through to the next stage – they will be keen to avoid this in 2016-17.

PSG have not started the new season in their usual ruthless form, with a defeat and draw in their last two Ligue 1 games under Unai Emery.

The Gunners got out of jail slightly with a late winner against Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday, with Santi Cazorla netting from the penalty spot at the death to assure a 2-1 victory.

Arsenal boss Wenger has some critical decisions to make in terms of his starting XI, especially in the centre of midfield and attack.

The Frenchman has suggested that Olivier Giroud may well make his first start of the new season as his fitness returns, with new boy Lucas Perez potentially making way.

The Premier League side started Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin in the heart of their midfield against Southampton and the temptation to replicate this in Paris will be there.

However, with Mohamed Elneny and Granit Xhaka also in contention for a boiler-room berth, Wenger has options to change if needed.

Laurent Koscielny received a face knock against Southampton but trained like normal on Monday and as such will surely continue at the heart of the visiting side’s defence alongside Shkodran Mustafi.

Arsenal would surely be happy with a draw in this clash, but there is little doubt that the Gunners have the personnel to record victory if their big guns fire.

Possible Arsenal starting XI (4-2-3-1): Cech; Bellerin, Koscielny, Mustafi, Monreal; Cazorla, Coquelin; Walcott, Ozil, Sanchez; Giroud
