Premier League champions Manchester City thrashed Rotherham United in the FA Cup third round at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon, and after the match one man got plenty of plaudits from fans on social media.
The Citizens went into the game off the back of that fine win over Liverpool on Thursday evening, and despite wholesale changes made by Pep Guardiola, the title holders produced a scintillating display in a convincing 7-0 win over the Championship outfit.
In fairness, the gulf in class was evident throughout the contest, and Manchester City could have had even more than the seven goals they did net, had they been a little more clinical in front of goal.
As it was the Citizens got more than enough, as they warmed up for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Burton Albion with a passing and movement masterclass.
After an indifferent set of results around the Christmas period, it would appear that City are hitting their straps once again, and against the Millers we saw all of the quality that they possess in their squad.
Although the likes of Raheem Sterling, Kevin de Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus all started for the Citizens, it was local lad Phil Foden who produced the moment of the afternoon, when he burst into the box and scored the second goal of the game, his first at the Etihad, albeit via a fortunate ricochet.
The England youth international is very highly thought of by Guardiola, and having come through the academy set up at the Etihad, Man City fans take pride in the youngster, and many of them were raving about him on social media after the final whistle.
Most Citizens followers appreciate just what a talent they have at their disposal, with plenty posting about how they enjoy watching him and are looking forward to seeing his career develop under their special manager.
Here are some of their messages:
Foden looked genuinely emotional when he scored. We’re lucky to have him. Thought Walker had his best game in ages today too, fair play to him. Sterling excellent, Jesus strong, Stones and Otamendi pretty solid. Lovely stuff. #mcfc

7-0 win, 6 different goalscorers (1 og), 1st home goal for Foden, 1st senior appearance for Sandler, 67 minutes under the belt for KdB. All in all a great day at the office for #mcfc

Good performance, 3rd gear all game, nothing to get too excited about! Sterling & Gundogan looked great, Foden never out of place, first clean sheet in like 13 matches! Mahrez & Jesus still not good enough but still got goals. #mcfc #mancity #cityvrufc
