Out-of-favour Middlesbrough striker Jordan Rhodes wants to secure a deal to sign for Aston Villa before the January transfer window closes, according to The Birmingham Mail.

The Midlands outfit have been busy this week, securing deals to add James Bree, Birkir Bjarnason and Conor Hourihane to Steve Bruce’s promotion-chasing side.

However, it is believed that the ambitious Championship side are not finished in their business just yet, with plenty of talk that Villa want to land a striker this month.

Rhodes has found first-team football hard to come by at Middlesbrough this season, with Alvaro Negredo getting the nod to start ahead of him more often than not.

As such, the Scotland international could leave the Riverside Stadium either on loan or permanently before Tuesday’s deadline.

The latest report suggests that Rhodes prefers a move to Villa but that Bruce’s men will likely have to increase their offer of 6 million, which was made and rejected by Boro last week.
