Tottenham Hotspur return to Premier League action on Wednesday night with a tough trip to rivals Southampton, who will be motivated to record three points against Spurs.

Visiting manager Mauricio Pochettino, Toby Alderweireld and Victor Wanyama all return to their former employers, in what should add spice to a high-quality encounter.

Spurs recorded back-to-back home wins over the lead up to Christmas against Hull City and Burnley, with the major question ahead of the game on the south coast whether the North London side will play a back four or a three-man defence.

Alderweireld has been passed fit to play and will surely either take the place of Eric Dier or slot in beside the England international and Jan Vertonghen.

As such, from the team that beat Burnley last time out, it may well be rising star Harry Winks that makes way to house the returning Belgian enforcer.

Predicted Tottenham XI vs Saints (3-5-2): Lloris; Dier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen; Walker, Wanyama, Dembele, Eriksen, Rose; Alli, Kane

I like the formation and think 3 central defenders free up Walker and Rose to do what they do best down the flanks. I’m just not fully convinced by Dier at the back, I don’t know it’s confidence, tiredness or he’s not used to such a fight for his place but he’s not been the same this season.

    I’d like to see

    Lloris
    Toby Jan Davies
    Walker Dembele wanyama Rose
    Alli Eriksen
    Kane

Winks or Dier to come on around the hour mark in midfield depending on what we need.
Jansen to get some minutes, to impress.
Sissoko, Son or N’koudou to give an injection of pace or width if needed
