With Glasgow Rangers already 4-0 ahead of the part-time Gibraltar side St Joseph’s, what team will Steven Gerrard pick to play at Ibrox on Thursday night?

He can only play 11 players and three substitutes out of the original list of 23. Should he use this match to give some other players a start?

Here is the Rangers starting XI I’d pick, in a 2-3-2-3 formation:

                              Wes Foderingham:

               Nikola Katic,     George Edmundson,

Matt Polster,      Glen Kamara,     Andy Halliday:

                      Sheyi Ojo,    Greg Docherty,

Jake Hastie.             Greg Stewart,              Jordan Jones:

The chances are that St Joseph’s will play with one up front in Glasgow and that Progrès Niederkorn will have spies and scouts at the game.

They will be dissecting all the Rangers moves in preparation for the two-legged ties being played in Luxembourg and Glasgow within the next couple of weeks.

Progrès Niederkorn won 1-0 against Cardiff Metropolitan University F.C. at home in Luxembourg, and lost 2-1 away in Wales, in a pre-qualifying round.

The aggregate was 2-2 and Progrès went through on the away goal rule to meet Cork City of Ireland in the next round.

Progrès won the first leg 2-0 in Cork and are now huge favourites and odds-on to go through to meet Rangers in the next round.

The game will be builtup as a revenge clash, and should sell out Ibrox.

A poor Rangers side managed by Pedro Caixinha were knocked out 2-1 on aggregate by Progrès Niederkorn in 2017, it was embarrassing and a big loss financially.

Gerrard needs to rotate his Rangers squad and the home clash against St Joseph’s is the perfect opportunity to let some of the fringe players shine.
