Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has lavished praise on key attacker Son Heung-min after the South Korea international’s superb performance in the Premier League against Stoke City yesterday.

Speculation over the former Bayer Leverkusen attacker’s future at White Hart Lane had circulated over the summer, with Wolfsburg reportedly keen to bring him back to the Bundesliga.

It was also suggested that Pochettino had lost a bit of patience with the Asian star over his perceived lack of willingness to work back towards his own goal.

However, Son was afforded his first Premier League outing of the new campaign yesterday at the bet365 Stadium and duly reminded his manager and the travelling support of his calibre.

The versatile forward netted both of Spurs’s first two goals in a 4-0 rout of the Potters, while he also laid on an assist for Harry Kane’s first strike of the season.

Pochettino stated that he was impressed by Son’s showing, that he was important for the club and that he would feature in the Premier League and Champions League for the North Londoners this season.

“I’m very happy for him – he needed to score, he’s very important for the team because he can help us,” the Argentine told the club’s official website.

“We have a lot of games ahead where we need Sonny and he can be important for the team. They were great goals, fantastic for him and the team and we’re all very pleased with his performance.”
