Aston Villa defeated Derby County 2-1 on Monday as they booked their place back in the Premier League after a three-year hiatus.

Goals from Anwar El Ghazi and John McGinn in each half were enough to see Dean Smith’s side over the line and go one better than last season’s disappointment at the same stage.

Martyn Waghorn gave the Villans a tense finish when they pulled one back inside the final ten minutes of the game before a further seven minutes of injury time were added by the officials.

The win, which is estimated to potentially earn the club around Β£170million in the future, capped off what has been a remarkable campaign for Smith’s side.

Aston Villa did not look like play-off contenders back in March, however, a ten-game winning streak helped them get into the position they were on Monday.

Recruitment in January played a key role, however, the decision to recall one man will have been what delighted a number of fans most as the player continued to provide dividends with a solid performance at Wembley.

Jed Steer was on loan with Charlton Athletic for the first part of the season, who coincidently won promotion to the Championship on Sunday via the play-offs, and it proved to be a solid piece of business sense to bring him back to Villa Park.

Fans were delighted with his performance against Derby and many took to Twitter to sing his praises as they now look forward to their return to the Premier League.

Here are just some of their reactions to his display in between the sticks:
