Crystal Palace have suffered a blow in their pursuit of goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen, who revealed he is happy at Barcelona.
The 28-year-old has been linked with a move to Selhurst Park to reunite with his former manager at Ajax and current Eagles boss Frank de Boer.
The Dutch shot-stopper joined Spanish side Barcelona 12 months ago but made just one La Liga appearance last season, with Marc-Andre ter Stegen preferred ahead of him.
His lack of game time led to speculations of a potential reunion with De Boer, which was intensified by the departure of short-lived Palace goalkeeper Steve Mandanda.
However, it has emerged that Cillessen is happy at the Catalonia club and has no intentions to leave the Spanish side.
“No I am not going. I am very happy here,” ESPN quotes the Dutch keeper as saying.
“I have not spoken with Frank, I know him well but I’ve not talked to him.”
The Netherlands international’s revelation will come as a blow for the Eagles as they have yet to secure a new goalkeeper during this transfer window.
Current Palace no.1 Wayne Hennessey struggled with form last season and lacked consistency.
The Welshman has often been criticised for making preventable mistakes in goal and contributing to unnecessary losses for the South London side.
With 38-year-old Julian Speroni, who only featured twice last season, as the only back up option for Palace, De Boer must identify another competent transfer target if he wishes to avoid relegation battles in their next campaign.
A new high-profile stopper would certainly bolster the Selhurst Park outfit, but if Cillessen’s comments are anything to go by the Premier League side will need to turn their attention elsewhere.
