Everton picked up a win which was much needed, when they took care of Cardiff City 3-0 on Tuesday evening, and after the match fans were full of praise for their key man on the night.
The Toffees headed across the Severn Bridge in pretty ordinary form, but having had 17 days since their last match, they had been given the chance to take a step back, reflect on where they were going wrong, and work on putting it right again.
It must be said that Everton made full use of that opportunity, and ran out comfortable winners down at the Cardiff City Stadium, much to the delight of their under pressure boss Marco Silva.
There was a chance heading into the contest that the Toffees players might have one eye on the Merseyside derby on Sunday, but if that was the case they never showed it, as they got in front early enough and maintained their advantage throughout the game.
The lead was given to Everton by Gylfi Sigurdsson, when he burst into the box to get on the end of a Seamus Coleman pull back, and then after the break he got a second when he finished off good play by substitute Bernard.
It was far from a vintage Toffees performance, but given what had gone before I don’t think anyone linked with the club were overly bothered about that. Dominic Calvert-Lewin rounded off the win late on.
After the match it was fair to say Everton fans were impressed with what they saw from Gylfi Sigurdsson, with many of them taking to social media to post about his performance.
The Toffees have the biggest game of their season on the horizon on Sunday when they entertain rivals Liverpool, and supporters will be hoping that the Iceland international can replicate his display against the Reds.

In 17 days, Spring has sprung, Sigurdsson is sunning and surfing again in South Wales, and Everton are back winning matches. Bring on the World Cup final. #EFC

Not a great performance but picked up after the 2nd goal. Gueye and Sigurdsson were outstanding. Onto Sunday 👀🔵⚪️ #efc

Much needed 3-0 victory for EFC against Cardiff City in South Wales. First time we’ve won there in 42 years apparently. Two goals from Sigurdsson and a late strike from DCL take us onto 36 points and give a boost ahead of the derby on Sunday #COYB #EFC

Poor first half. Much better controlled 2nd half. Sigurdsson by far the best player. Bernard made an instant impact. Schneiderlin decent on his return. Scored 3, kept a clean sheet. Onto the World Cup final #EFC
