Chelsea are performing well under Frank Lampard this season, especially given the fact that the Blues are currently serving a transfer ban.
However, with the London club appealing the decision and looking to be able to recruit players sooner rather than later, considering a move for Benfica defender Ruben Dias would be an excellent option.
As things stand,Chelsea will not be able to sign players in January. They were slammed with a two-window transfer ban earlier this year after having been found guilty for irregularities in terms of their signing of young players.
Chelsea do however plan to appeal the ban and may look to make signings in January if their appeal is successful.
The Blues have looked a bit shaky at the back this season. Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christiensen have both spent long periods on the sidelines due to injury while Kurt Zouma is looking unconvincing in terms of his performances.
Chelsea youngster Fikayo Tomori meanwhile has shone and become a fan favourite at Stamford Bridge. He does however still have a lot of learning to do.
If either Tomori or Zouma were to be injured in the near future, it would mean that Frank Lampard would have a lack of strength in depth at the back.
Dias has established himself as one of the brightest up and coming talents in Portugal.
He would be a solid signing for the Blues and will also fit into Lampard’s vision of grooming young talent.
While other clubs would want to sign Dias also, Chelsea’s recent switch to focusing on young players and their current place in the Champions League means that the Benfica man could well be an exciting addition at Stamford Bridge.
The Portugal international would offer the Blues another excellent option at the heart of their defence and could well go on to become a mainstay in a team fighting for major honours.
