Tottenham Hotspur came through a Champions League epic at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday evening, to book their spot in the semi-final of the European competition, and afterwards their fans were full of praise for their hero on the night.

Spurs went into the second leg of the quarter final holding a narrow 1-0 lead over Manchester City from the first game at the new stadium last week, but what transpired here had to be seen to be believed.

Tottenham saw their advantage wiped out inside four minutes when Raheem Sterling put Pep Guardiola’s men ahead on the night, but Mauricio Pochettino’s charges were soon in complete control of the tie.

That is because Son Heung-min made it 1-1, and then put Spurs in front before the quarter hour mark in what was a frantic start to the contest, and only the beginning of a truly incredible night.

As you would expect, the Premier League champions did not lie down and Tottenham were behind on the evening once again when Bernardo Silva levelled the scores, before a second from Sterling put City ahead on 21 minutes.

Sergio Aguero looked to put Spurs out of the tie when he made it 4-3 to the Citizens on aggregate in the second period, but a fortunate finish from Fernando Llorente had the Londoners back in front on away goals.

Pochettino and his Tottenham players had their head in their hands deep into injury time when Sterling completed his hat-trick, only for VAR to rule the goal out and send the visitors into the semi-finals.

Spurs fans piled onto social media after the final whistle to react to one of the craziest evenings of football many of them had ever witnessed.

Predictably one man was the centre of attention. Son was awesome on the night, not just with his brace of goals, but his hold up play, his defensive work and his non-stop running all being key factors in getting Tottenham through to their first ever semi-final at this level.
