Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka may give the team that beat Reading 1-0 at the weekend a rest as League Two Bury come to town in the Carabao Cup tonight.
The Reds have made an unbeaten start to their Championship campaign, the win over the Royals following draws against West Bromwich Albion and Bristol City.
And with games against Wigan Athletic and Birmingham City coming before the end of the month, Karanka is expected to use his squad to the full for tonight’s match.
“I think there will be lots of changes, yes,” the Spaniard told The Nottingham Post.
“The players who played against Reading – many of them have played three games in a row and we are in August
“It is not a question of letting them rest, it is more about letting the other players show me that they are keen to play.”
That means that several players could be in line for a first start of the season including Sam Byram, Matty Cash, Michael Hefele, Jack Robinson, Luke Steele and Hillal Soudini – who scored the winner against Reading.
Goalkeeper Steele, centre-back Hefele, left-back Robinson, right-back Byram and winger Soudini were all summer signings.
And as Karanka hinted that he could change his entire team, other players who have yet to feature – including the likes of Thomas Lam, Liam Bridcutt, Zach Clough and Apostos Vellios – could be in line for an opportunity.
The manager is expecting a tough battle against the League Two outfit, who have opened their season with a 1-0 home win over Yeovil Town and a 1-0 defeat on the road at MK Dons.
Nevertheless, however many changes they make, Forest should be far too strong for Bury on the night and the match gives them the chance to show off the squad depth Karanka has already talked about this season.
Nottingham Forest (possible): Luke Steele; Jack Robinson, Michael Hefele, Thomas Lam, Sam Byram; Liam Bridcutt, Ben Watson, Matty Cash, Zach Clough, Hillal Soudini; Daryl Murphy
