Wolverhampton Wanderers were beaten in their opening Europa League group game by Sporting Braga on Thursday evening, and after the match there were mixed reviews from the fan base over a starter in the loss.

Wolves went into the contest off the back of a hit and miss beginning to their campaign. They successfully made their way through the qualifiers of the secondary European competition, but have not begun their Premier League season as strongly as they would have liked.

After battling past Torino to make it into the group stage of the Europa League, Wanderers will be disappointed to lose their first game in an open looking group 1-0, especially as it was one of their three home matches.

In truth, it was not the best performance Nuno Espirito Santo’s players have put in during his time in charge at Wolves. A lack of a cutting edge up top was costly, as were defensive errors, the latter of which is so unlike them.

It could have been very different for Wanderers, had new signing Patrick Cutrone had a better match. He was given a series of presentable chances to put his side in front when the score was locked at 0-0, but seemed to snatch at them and they went begging.

It is fair to say that while the Italian has shown promise in his short time at Molineux, the 21-year-old hasn’t completely won over the Wolves faithful, and this latest struggle has left many unconvinced.

Cutrone has made nine appearances for Wolves but has only found the net once, so Wanderers fans are understandably looking for a better return from the man who signed a four-year deal in the summer.

Supporters provided mixed opinions on the Italy international when they reacted to the loss on social media though, so the attacker definitely still has work to do to win the crowd over.
