Noel Whelan has claimed that Leeds United will once again attempt to sign Swansea City star Dan James during the summer, as reported by West Yorkshire Sport Daily.
The 21-year-old was strongly linked with a move to Elland Road last month. He even reportedly had a medical with the Yorkshire giants before the Swans decided to pull out of a deal at the last minute.
The Welsh giants stand to potentially lose the player at the end of the season as his contract is due to expire. Leeds got an opportunity to see James in action during their win against the Welsh club last week.
During the game, the youngster showed glimpses of pure quality and excited many Leeds fans. It remains to be seen whether the Whites will again move for the player at the end of the season.
If they manage to win promotion to the Premier League, there is a good chance that they will be able to sign him. Sheffield United’s 4-0 win against Reading on Saturday, means that the Blades move above Leeds and into second position on the Championship standings, albeit having played a game more.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side will need to ensure that they win their next League game against struggling Bolton Wanderers next Saturday in order to ensure that they remain in contention to win an automatic promotion spot.
A win could potentially see Leeds move back into top spot on the standings depending on other results. They are currently two points adrift of top of the table Norwich City, having played a game less.
When discussing links between James and Leeds, Whelan said: “Apparently. I think the interest is still there and that [negotiations] could start again after this season.”
