Manchester City walloped Watford 6-0 in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday evening to complete a magical domestic treble, and after the match fans took to social media to praise one of their many superstars.

The Citizens had already secured the Carabao Cup and the Premier League, and headed back to the capital looking for the victory which would see them be the first men’s team to win the three biggest prizes in the English game in the same season.

City were widely expected to win the contest at a canter, but it nearly didn’t begin that way as Ederson was called upon to make the first save of the day, when a Watford counter attack put Roberto Pereyra through on goal, only for the Hornets man to fluff his lines.

That sparked the Citizens into life and there was only one winner in the cup final from there on in. It wasn’t long before David Silva gave them the lead, and they were two up at the break when Gabriel Jesus slotted home with help from Raheem Sterling.

You felt it was game over from that point onwards but City made sure by running riot in the second period. Kevin de Bruyne added a third before Jesus got on the scoresheet again. Raheem Sterling then provided the gloss to the scoreline with the fifth and sixth goals of the game, as Pep Guardiola’s men became the first team in 116 years to score six in the Wembley showpiece.

The England international was very much the star of the show, not just for his strikes but his movement, selfless play and all-round quality on the ball made him the standout player on show.

Kevin de Bruyne may have been named the official man of the match, but there was no doubt among City fans on social media that Sterling should have won the award.

A number of them took to Twitter to laud their treble winner, who capped off a tremendous personal season with another impressive performance.
