Chelsea are yet to make an approach for Fiorentina left-back Marcos Alonso, the Italian club have confirmed.
The Blues have been linked with a move for the Spanish full-back, who has grown in stature since the days of playing in England with Bolton Wanderers and Sunderland.
Antonio Conte’s men are expected to add more new faces before the transfer window closes later this week and the Italian coach has been open in his desire to sign a new defender.

Alonso has impressed in Serie A with his continual willingness to get forward when his side are in possession while he is also a dogged defender when put on the back foot.
Despite the reports suggesting that Chelsea were in the hunt to sign the Spaniard, there has not been an official approach from the Blues as yet.
“So far no club has come to ask for our best players,” Fiorentina sporting director Carlos Freitas is quoted as saying by FourFourTwo.
“He’s for now a Fiorentina player.”
Left-back has been an area of confusion for the West London club in recent times, with Cesar Azpilicueta playing out of position to fill the role.
If Alonso was signed it would allow his compatriot to resume his more-natural position at right-back, with Branislav Ivanovic then free to cover centrally if needed.
