Newcastle United are ready to send fringe midfielder Jack Colback on loan to Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to The Daily Mail.
The combative central midfielder has fallen down Rafa Benitez’s choices at St James’ Park, with Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden starting the campaign as the Toon’s top options in the boiler room.
With Newcastle also signing Mikel Merino on loan from Borussia Dortmund to add qualify in the centre of the park, Colback is facing a campaign on the sidelines if he stays in the north east.
Wolves have started the new 2017-18 Championship campaign in exhilarating fashion, with a summer of expansive recruitment clearly paying off at Molineux.
The club look capable of putting forward a promotion push towards Premier League football and the addition of Colback would add another proven option to Nuno’s squad.
Wolves have impressive Portuguese deep-lying playmaker Ruben Neves in the heart of their team and the Newcastle man could well be an ideal foil for the summer signing.
The Daily Mail claim that a loan deal could well be completed in the next 24 hours, with Colback to spend the campaign in the Championship.
Benitez has been keen to raise funds to purchase new players for Newcastle and as such selling the former Sunderland midfielder would surely be his first option.
However, the report suggests that a loan deal is more likely, with removing some or all of Colback’s wages at least easing some of the financial load away from the newly promoted Premier League outfit.
While Wolves have started the new season in fine fashion, the going has been considerably tougher for Newcastle.
A 3-0 win over West Ham United last time out was welcome relief for the Tyneside outfit, after defeats against Tottenham Hotspur and Huddersfield Town had suggested a tough campaign lay ahead.
