Newcastle United have emerged as surprise suitors of Everton midfielder James McCarthy, with The Daily Mail stating that the Championship side want to sign the Republic of Ireland international.
The former Wigan Athletic battler was left out of the Toffees’ matchday squad on Saturday as rumours grow over his future.
It is believed that Everton are willing to let McCarthy leave before the transfer window closes and rate the midfielder at around £20 million.

The Glasgow-born box-to-box man was a favourite of former Goodison Park chief Roberto Martinez, but the Spaniard’s replacement prefers new signing Idrissa Gueye.
Newcastle have spent big this summer in a bid to return straight back to the Premier League and have backed Rafa Benitez with new players.
Although a host of Premier League sides will surely also be interested in McCarthy should he be allowed to leave Everton, the Tyneside club are also in the mix to sign the gifted 25-year-old.
