Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez could have two players back, but three of his squad will miss their trip to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United on Saturday evening.
The Magpies make the journey to the Theatre of Dreams still looking for a first win in the Premier League this season, and they could be up against it when they take on the Red Devils, who will be reeling from their defeat to West Ham United last weekend.
Jose Mourinho’s men followed that up with a draw in the Champions League in midweek, so they will be out to deliver a performance against the Magpies, who will need to be at their best defensively to combat that.
With that in mind, Benitez will be pleased that he could have Federico Fernandez and Paul Dummett back for the trip for the later kick off.
The Argentine centre-back has been out since the draw at Crystal Palace a couple of weeks ago and his return will be welcomed, while the Wales international last played in the same match.
Although Benitez hopes to have his defensive duo back, he will remain without the man he signed to lead his line in the summer in Salomon Rondon.
The Venezuela international missed the defeat to Leicester City last weekend, and he is going to be forced to miss the trip to Old Trafford too.
Another player who will not feature for the Magpies against Mourinho’s men is centre-back Florian Lejeune.
Benitez confirmed all of the injury latest and who is and who is not available for the contest, when he addressed the media ahead of the game.
“I have to assess Fede (Fernández) and (Paul) Dummett,” The Newcastle official website quote him as saying.
“Obviously, Rondón and (Florian) Lejeune are not available, and (Jamie) Sterry has a problem, so he too will not be available.”
