Newcastle United have confirmed that deadline day signing Martin Dubravka could make his Magpies debut on Sunday against Crystal Palace, while fellow new face Islam Slimani faces a late fitness test.
The St James’ Park outfit head to the capital in desperate need for points, with both teams currently facing the prospect of a relegation battle this season.
Sky Sports state that Dubravka and fellow goalkeeper Rob Elliot are available for Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez – it will be interesting to see who the Magpies boss selects.
However, the north east outfit still have defensive pairing Jesus Games and Florian Lejeune unavailable, with the duo nursing ankle and foot complaints respectively.
Newcastle fans will be hopeful of getting their first glimpse of Slimani, who joined the Tyneside club on loan from Leicester City on Wednesday.
The Algeria international’s capture is a big boost for a side that has struggled to score goals consistently in the Premier League, with the new man expected to be an automatic starter when available.
Newcastle manager Benitez has confirmed that Slimani is in contention to make his debut but will be assessed closer to kick-off.
“Islam Slimani has been working with the physio,†the Magpies boss told the club’s official website.
“He has a small problem with his thigh but it’s not as bad as people thought. He has been on the pitch. Will he be available? We’ll see tomorrow when we train.â€
Newcastle go into the game in 16th place but can power their way up to 12th, past Palace, by winning at Selhurst Park.
