Newcastle United defenders Ciaran Clark and DeAndre Yedlin will miss the Magpies’ fixture against Burton Albion on Wednesday night, as reported by Chronicle Live.
The pair have been an integral part of Rafa Benitez’s side’s success this season and have contributed hugely to a defence which has only shipped 33 goals in 39 games this term.

Republic of Ireland international Clark, who is sidelined with a knee injury, has arguably been Newcastle’s best defender this term and has won over the St James’ Park faithful with a string of assured displays.
The same can be said for 23-year-old Yedlin, whose well-renowned speed has been backed up with a rapidly improving defensive game that has impressed many on the terraces this campaign.
Grant Hanley and Vurnon Anita filled in for the stricken pair during Saturday’s 2-1 win over Wigan Athletic and are expected to do so yet again in a crucial game for the Toon Army.
Due to Burton’s incredible last-minute winner against Huddersfield Town on Saturday, Newcastle now sit 10 points clear of the third-placed Terriers with just seven games to go.
Should the Magpies manage to succeed where David Wagner’s men failed and beat the Brewers, that gap will, at the very least, be maintained as the fixture list diminishes into the final stretch of the long, hard slog that is the Championship.
Given that Newcastle will play four of those final seven fixtures at St James’ Park, a momentum building win against Nigel Clough’s outfit is exactly what Benitez will be demanding from his men on Wednesday night.
