Newcastle United striker Ayoze Perez has admitted he is not sure whether his future will be at St James’ Park beyond this summer.
The attacker is coming off the back of one of his best seasons for the Magpies, where his partnership alongside Salomon Rondon became an extremely fruitful one, and played a major part in the Tyneside outfit avoiding the drop.
There is a good deal of uncertainty around St James’ at the moment, with Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez heavily linked with the upcoming vacant position at Chelsea, while rumours of a takeover continually gather noise but seemingly with no end outcome.
That all leaves Magpies’ players and supporters alike in wondering what the future holds, and with Perez approaching the prime years of his career, that is a less than ideal situation for him.
The Newcastle forward has reportedly been the subject of interest from a number of big clubs this summer, with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur keen on his services, and the striker is unwilling to confirm he will remain part of the squad on Tyneside.
“It’s something that I cannot say right now. You cannot guarantee it. We’ll see,” the Shields Gazette quotes him as saying.
“It’s going to be a long summer. Obviously, there’s going to be a day where you make a decision. It depends on many things. Let’s see what happens.
“Obviously, this place is always going to be in my heart, whatever happens. We’ll see what happens.
“Yes (it would be hard to leave here), that’s something that’s always in my mind. This kind of environment – you don’t see it in many places. We’ll see what happens.
“It’s going to be a long summer, whatever can happen. I cannot guarantee anything, but we’ll see. It’s time to rest, to enjoy, and be with my family and friends. We’ll see.”
Those comments would suggest that the striker, who scored 13 goals in 41 appearances last season, could be ready to say goodbye to Newcastle, which would be a blow for the Tyneside outfit.
