Newly promoted Premier League side Newcastle United could be set to put one of their Championship-winning centre-backs on the transfer list if they land a summer reinforcement according to a report in the Newcastle Chronicle.
It is believed that Grant Hanley is already on his way out of St James’ Park having failed to make an impression since signing from Blackburn Rovers and another could follow him through the exit door.
That all depends on whether Rafael Benitez is able to secure the signing of Eliaquim Mangala, a man on the top of the Magpies’ wishlist.
The Manchester City defender is seemingly the subject of a deal for Newcastle with the French star rumoured to be valued at around £15 million and the Spanish boss is hopeful that a deal can be done.
Should Mangala arrive then Benitez knows he will need to get ruthless as he strengthens the quality of his squad ahead of their return to the top flight.
Part of that process would mean that one of Ciaran Clark, Jamaal Lascelles or Chancel Mbemba could be put on the transfer list to accommodate the former Premier League winner, who has spent the last season on loan at Valencia.
