Newcastle United have made approaches to Manchester City for four of their players this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

Joe Hart, Eliaquim Mangala, Fernando and Kelechi Iheanacho have all been targets for Magpies boss Rafa Benitez following their promotion to the Premier League last term.

The Tyneside outfit have already bought in Florian Lejeune from La Liga side Eibar in this transfer window, as well as Chelsea’s Christian Atsu, who spent the 2016-17 campaign on loan at St James’ Park.

However, the report claims that England goalkeeper Hart is poised to join West Ham United after Newcastle were unable to meet City’s financial demands.

The 30-year-old is back from a season spent on loan at Torino in Italy, where he did little to rebuild his reputation after being cast aside by manager Pep Guardiola when he took the reigns at the Etihad Stadium last summer.

Meanwhile, striker Iheanacho looks set to sign for Leicester City in a big-money deal, with BBC Sport reporting the figure to be at the £25 million mark.

The talented Nigerian is popular amongst fans of the Citizens but has slipped behind Argentine superstar Sergio Aguero and Brazilian youngster Gabriel Jesus in the pecking order.

With two targets now seemingly out of reach for Newcastle, supporters may be concerned at a relative lack of transfer activity so far this summer.

Fellow Premier League new boys Huddersfield Town have bought in no fewer than 10 fresh faces, whilst Brighton & Hove Albion have bolstered their squad with three additions.

Benitez was angered by a lack of movement in January and will undoubtedly be keen to ensure that business is concluded swiftly this time around ahead of the Premier League opener against Tottenham Hotspur on August 13.
