Newcastle United forward Elias Sorensen is a target for League One outfit Blackpool, with the Tangerines wanting him on loan, according to The Chronicle.
The Magpies youngster has been making quite a name for himself within the St James’ Park under-23 side this term, where he is scoring goals for fun, and seemingly pushing his name forward for a run out in the Premier League.
Rafael Benitez has so far resisted the temptation to elevate the striker to the Newcastle first team, but with his side constantly misfiring in front of goal it remains to be seen how long he can hold off throwing him into the mix.
Sorensen has found the net no fewer than 19 times for the Magpies’ development side, which has led to fans repeatedly calling for him to be included in the senior ranks, but to date their pleas have fallen on deaf ears.
Newcastle are struggling for top level forward options, with only Salomon Rondon in any sort of form among their strike force, but despite that it appears Benitez is reluctant to throw the 19-year-old into the mix.
The Magpies’ hotshot could therefore be sent out on loan to gain some senior experience away from St James’, ahead of being included in the senior set up from the start of preseason.
Whether a departure will be possible for the Newcastle ace is currently up in the air, as the forward appeared to pick up an injury in the Checkatrade Trophy defeat at rivals Sunderland on Tuesday night.
Blackpool have enquired about taking the prolific youngster to Bloomfield Road, as they go in search of a goalscorer who is going to fire them into the play-offs in League One.
Newcastle’s stance regarding Sorensen will become clearer over the next few days, but Benitez could be taking a risk is he does allow him to leave, with a lack quality options backing up Rondon.
