Newcastle United have entered the race to sign Hull City defender Harry Maguire and will fight Tottenham Hotspur for the centre-half’s signature this summer, according to The Sun.
The Magpies have confirmed their promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, with Rafa Benitez vocal in his desire to splash the cash this summer.
Maguire has been an impressive figure in Hull’s defiant push against relegation but it remains to be seen if his employers will be heading back to the Championship for next term.
Tottenham have been mooted as real admirers of the 24-year-old, with Mauricio Pochettino liking young players that he can mould into his way of playing the game.
With Spurs also playing three at the back this term on plenty of occasions, there is certainly scope for the North London side to add another defender to their ranks this summer.
Benitez has stated that he needs new faces to keep Newcastle competitive next summer and Maguire would be an impressive addition.
The no-nonsense centre-half is expected to leave Hull regardless of whether they stay in the Premier League or not and the St James’ Park side could offer him something that Spurs cannot – a guarantee of regular first-team football.
