Newcastle United Premier League start continued in underwhelming fashion on Sunday, with a second consecutive loss – with the north east outfit losing 1-0 against fellow new boys Huddersfield Town.
The Magpies were beaten by an Aaron Mooy wonder strike, which condemned Rafa Benitez’s side to defeat.
The Newcastle manager was left fuming after the match, believing his side lacked the enthusiasm and conviction needed to bring the three points back to St James’ Park.
The visitors tried to get back into the game at the John Smith Stadium, however they failed to convert any of their chances., with Matt Richie sending a curling effort wide of the post and had a penalty appeal turned down late on when Christian Atsu headed the ball on to Chris Lowe’s shoulder.
Newcastle will host West Ham United, who themselves have not won a match in their opening two Premier League fixtures, at St. James’ Park next weekend.
There was a shining light within their performance in Yorkshire, though, with Joselu’s debut.
The former Stoke City striker joined Newcastle earlier in the week and made a real impact, having come off the bench in the 52nd minute.
Benitez’s side have so far failed to score in both of their Premier League matches, however, with the addition of Joselu and the intensity he showed for the final 35 minutes of the fixture with the Terriers, it should not be too long before they register their first goal of the campaign.
Many of the Toon Army had felt the Spanish attacker had contributed to their efforts more than Dwight Gayle had before being replaced, with the majority of the Newcastle faithful eluding to the suggestion that the new signing should be starting their next game against The Hammers.

Joselu looked decent when he came on.

Mbemba was sound given he was playing out of position. Merino had a good final 30 mins but was terrible for 60. Joselu must start #NUFC

Joselu did more in the little time he came on than Gayle did for most of the game. Deserves a start next PL game? #NUFC

We looked more dangerous as soon as Joselu came on. We create more chances from this point. Hudds did have spells in first half

If we'd started like we played in the final 20mins then could of been a different story!
Joselu should start next game #nufc

Joselu looked okay, good hold up play but needs to stop attempting volleys from 30 yards.

Clark is the only left-back option he has. Joselu made a difference. His plan was clear – defensive, as you'd expect

Only positives today. MERINO AND JOSELU @NUFC

Controlled play for remainder of the game after the goal. Joselu showed more than Gayle which adds competition. And…RAFA IS OUR BOSS!
