Newcastle United fans endured a rollercoaster of emotions as their side surrendered a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 to Manchester United on Saturday evening, but they were quick to praise one of their starters after the contest.
Heading into the clash, all of the attention and focus was on Jose Mourinho, and the Magpies were quick to pile the pressure onto the Red Devils’ boss, when they flew out of the traps and took the game to their more established opponents.
On loan Chelsea man Kenedy gave Newcastle the lead early on, and then Japan international Yoshinori Muto sent the Toon Army into raptures when he doubled their advantage after just 10 minutes, as Rafael Benitez’s charges looked like they would score every time they went forward.
Ultimately, the Magpies could not maintain their intensity for the full game, and in the second half the former champions laid siege on the goal of the Tyneside club, with the visitors unable to hang on.
A Juan Mata free kick and classy goals from Anthony Martial and Alexis Sanchez condemned Newcastle to yet another defeat, a loss which saw them slide to second from bottom in the Premier League table and still looking for their first win of the campaign.
On this evidence however, the search for a maiden victory of the season will not go on for long, especially if the likes of Muto continue to develop having arrived at St James’ Park in the summer.
Newcastle have been looking for someone to complement their attack for a little while, and on the evidence of his performance at Old Trafford they might just have found their man.
Their supporters were certainly impressed with what they witnessed, as they highlighted when they reacted to his showing after the full time whistle had blown.
Here are some of their twitter posts:
What a finish by Muto as by the way. I thought he was class today. Tidy hard working player. Him and Perez played really well together. Loads more positives than negatives out of this game. #NUFC

Don't care about the team's loss, but Muto started the game and scored within 10 minutes already made me happy enough. #nufc
Use him as a first team striker already, rafa!

Right, I’ve reflected. We were ace 1st half. Muto looks decent. That 3rd kit is special. We’ll be reet. UNITED #NUFC
