Newcastle United announced the signing of Jacob Murphy from Norwich City for a fee believed to be around £12 million on Wednesday and their fans immediately took to social media to welcome the new recruit.

In confirming the signing the Magpies produced a video on Twitter which declared the winger as a fan of the club which has excited supporters.

Murphy arrives with more than 100 senior appearances under his belt and although he was a part of the England under-21 squad which played in the European Championship last month, he has flown to Ireland to join up with his new team-mates on tour.

The move means Rafael Benitez has finally landed the attacking player he so desperately sought this summer. The Newcastle boss was eager to boost his options especially in wide areas going into the first season back in the Premier League and he has eventually landed his man.

The 22-year-old grew up as a Toon fan courtesy of his parents hailing from the North East and has expressed his delight at signing for the club he supported as a child.

“It was a childhood dream of mine to represent Newcastle and the opportunity is now here. I can’t wait to get started.” Murphy told the Newcastle official website.

The St James’ Park support base were quick to welcome their new signing on Twitter with many delighted with the addition the club have made and keen to see their new man putting in the effort they crave.
