Newcastle United are interested in signing striker Joelinton from Hoffenheim, according to a report published by The Chronicle.
The Toon Army needs to sign a striker as a priority this summer following the departure of their top scorer from last season, Salomon Rondon.
The South American has returned to West Brom after Newcastle failed to reach an agreement to make his loan deal become permanent.
The Brazilian’s stats suggest that he will be a risk. He has no prior Premier League experience and his track record is also not the best.
The reported Newcastle target managed seven goals and five assists from 28 Bundesliga appearances last season though he will probably be able to do better alongside technically better team-mates.
At 22-years-old, Joelinton can also improve a lot and become a capable striker.
His game is different than that of Rondon. He is lighter on his feet than the Venezuelan and prefers to dribble.
The Brazilian is also more versatile as a player and was often required to play on the left and right flank by Hoffenheim last season, behind the striker or as the striker himself.
Joelinton would be a interesting acquisition and if Newcastle can sign him, it would be a decent addition as he has the capabilities of succeeding.
With no Rondon or Ayoze Perez to count on next season, new Magpies manager Steve Bruce will need to make moves in the transfer market to give the St James’ Park outfit more bite in the final third.
