Tottenham Hotspur ended their pre-season with a penalty shootout defeat to Inter Milan at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon, and after the match their fans reflected on the day.
Spurs go into the new campaign looking to win silverware for the first time under Mauricio Pochettino, and after some serious tests ahead of the season beginning on Saturday evening, they should be strongly tuned up for what lies in front of them.
In essence, the result against the Serie A giants has no bearing on what Tottenham might or may not do this term, it was more a run out for fitness improvements, but it might be that their manager was given a selection headache to contend with.
That is because Lucas Moura once again impressed in a Spurs shirt. The man whose hat-trick took the Londoners to the Champions League final last term, only for him to be named on the bench in Madrid with the returning Harry Kane preferred to him, scored the goal for the home side, and looked quite at home alongside the England striker in a forward position.
Ultimately, Tottenham couldn’t hold on to their advantage in the contest, as Inter levelled just before half time when Stefano Sensi found the back of the net, and the Italians would go on and seal the shootout after misses from Christian Eriksen and Oliver Skipp for the hosts.
As well as a fitness exercise, the match offered the Spurs fans the chance to see their players, new and old, in action against a solid opposition, and after the game they were quick to recognise the display from the Brazil international Moura.
Many are now wondering whether the former Paris Saint-Germain star has forced his way into the reckoning for the season opener against Aston Villa on Saturday evening, with plenty suggesting that he should have done.

Things learnt from Pre season:
– Eriksen shouldn’t be taking penalties.
– Tanganga is solid.
– KWP is definitely capable to do a job at RB
– Lucas Moura is a very important player and is unlucky to not get more starts.#THFC #COYS

Think KWP was having one of his better games until switching off for Inter’s equaliser.
Lamela continues to impress and frustrate at the same time.
