Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has sent scouts to watch Las Palmas defender Mauricio Lemos in recent weeks, according to The Mirror.
The 20-year-old Uruguayan centre-half has been in good form for the La Liga team this season and has received positive reviews in Spain as a result.
Lemos was on loan at Las Palmas from Rubin Kazan last term and finalised a permanent deal from the Russian Premier League side over the summer.
Mourinho is yet to fully decide on his ideal pairing at the centre of the Old Trafford outfit’s defence, with Eric Bailly impressing but an obvious partner for him not holding their hand up as yet in 2016-17.
United have the likes of Chris Smalling, Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones that can play at the centre of the club’s rearguard but talk in the press suggests that the Premier League side will buy another defender at the next opportunity.
