Middlesbrough ran out comfortable winners against Burton Albion on Tuesday, with thanks to Britt Assombalonga, who scored both goals for Garry Monk’s team in a 2-0 victory.
The striker, who became the club’s record transfer for around £15million this summer, opened his account for the Riverside Stadium outfit after completing his move from Championship rivals Nottingham Forest.
His first goal came on the 23rd-minute mark after he was fed a ball from strike partner Rudy Gestede and made no mistake in placing it past the Albion ‘keeper.
It was not until the second half when the duo linked up again for Assombalonga’s second of the game, who had the fortune of tapping in the rebounded shot into an empty net.
The win, which comes off a victory in their previous match against Sheffield United on Saturday, helps lift Boro to fourth, as they look to build on a positive start to the season.
Monk’s side are heavy favourites to go back up to the Premier League at the first time of asking, and they will rely heavily on the striker’s goals at this level to help them achieve their aims.
The 24-year-old has a proven record when it comes to hitting the back of the net within the Championship, having converted 30 times in 65 appearances for Forest during three seasons, although he missed most of his second year through injury.
Middlesbrough fans will no doubt be excited that their record signing has already hit the ground running, and will be expecting the Congolese star to continue and help them push for a place back into England’s top division.
The Riverside faithful were pleased with the contribution of the Championship’s second most expensive player in history and took to social media to show their delight at his quick start.
