Paul Ince has criticised David de Gea for comments that the Manchester United stopper made after the defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.
The former Red Devils leader ploughed in on their current goalkeeper, after he gave a pretty ordinary interview, in the aftermath to the dismal 1-0 defeat to the Magpies.
The loss saw Manchester United drop into the bottom half of the table, and with so many wondering what is going on with the side who were perennial champions not so long ago, the comments made by de Gea didn’t go down well at all.
It was Ince who was least impressed with his words and was heavily critical of the interview, suggesting the goalkeeper he played with would never have given such a riposte.
“I watched David de Gea’s post-match interview and I was at a loss,” The Daily Mail quotes him as saying.
“He’s meant to be one of the leaders, if that was Peter Schmeichel standing there, there’s no chance you’d have seen that interview.
“This is one of the top players, the leaders at Man United, who has just signed a five-year contract.
“And he looks like he doesn’t have a clue what’s going on.
“If you’re a United fan listening to your goalkeeper – one of the main leaders in the team – and that’s the interview you hear, you’d be right to be disgraced.”
It was quite a surprise recently when de Gea signed a new long-term deal with United, especially as he is probably in his least impressive run of form in quite some time at present.
With that enhanced contract, the Spaniard was looked upon as someone who could be a leader in the dressing room, but that he could offer no answer to the Red Devils’ start to the season would suggest that things are much worse than they might seem for the Old Trafford outfit.
