Tottenham Hotspur warmed up for their Champions League tie against Borussia Dortmund in midweek by beating Leicester City 3-1 at Wembley Stadium on Sunday afternoon, and after the match the praise poured in for their star of the show.

Spurs were actually second best for a lot of the contest against the Foxes, with Mauricio Pochettino’s men grateful for a raft of missed chances by the former Premier League champions, before they took full advantage.

Tottenham were under plenty of pressure heading into the match, having already seen leaders Liverpool win earlier in the weekend, and although they were not at their fluent best, they deserve plenty of credit for coming through on top.

Leicester actually should have taken the lead a number of times before Davinson Sanchez scored his first Spurs goal to put the Londoners ahead shortly before half time, a lead which Christian Eriksen doubled, moments after Jamie Vardy missed a penalty kick.

The England man then pulled a goal back for the Foxes, but Tottenham were not to be denied, and wrapped up a potentially valuable three points when Son Heung-min raced clear of the opposing back line to slot home a third in injury time.

There were many good performances in a Spurs shirt in the encounter, but the best one was from Eriksen. He set up Sanchez’s goal, and then scored the second himself, to suggest his form is returning at just the right time for the White Hart Lane outfit.

Tottenham not only have a return to European action coming up in midweek, but they are now deeply involved in the Premier League title race, and if they are to secure silverware this term they need their key men fit and firing.

Spurs fans enjoyed seeing their superstar playmaker come back to form, with many commenting on his performance and the quality of his display against Leicester on social media after the final whistle.
