Arsenal overcame West Ham United 3-1 at the London Stadium on Monday night, and after the final whistle their fans took to social media to praise a man who would have been considered an unlikely hero ahead of the match.
The Gunners went into the contest without a win in their last eight matches, and things looked like getting worse for the Londoners when they surrendered the opening goal just before half time.
However under Freddie Ljungberg, there is a bit more character about the Arsenal players, and unlike earlier in the campaign, they kept on fighting and got their rewards for doing so.
They were level on the hour mark when Gabriel Martinelli crowned his first Premier League start with a goal, but there was better come from the Gunners soon after.
Expensive summer signing Nicolas Pepe finally showed what Arsenal shelled out £72 million for when he cut inside and curled home a sumptuous second for the Emirates Stadium outfit, and the three points was wrapped up when the classy Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang volleyed home a third with the assist coming from his fellow African, who had his best game for the club.
Gunners fans were not deluded enough to think that everything is rosy in their camp after the win, it is worth remembering after all that for an hour they were truly ordinary, but they hadn’t tasted victory for a while and enjoyed that feeling once again.
Those Arsenal supporters who took to social media after the final whistle were full of praise for Pepe, a man who has had a tough time of things since his big money transfer from Lille in the summer.
There were signs that he might just be turning the corner for the Gunners however, much to the delight of those fans who made it onto Twitter.
