Martin Jol has said Tottenham Hotspur are just a winger away from claiming major silverware, with Riyad Mahrez used as an ideal acquisition.
The Dutchman, a former Spurs manager, was at White Hart Lane for their final game ever there where he witnessed the 2-1 victory over Manchester United on Sunday.
Jol is a huge fan of current boss Mauricio Pochettino and believes the Argentine has got the best out of the squad during his three years in charge.
However, the former Fulham boss has made the claim that Tottenham could do with a winger to help them move to the next level and win the Premier League title.
“I was talking to one of Spurs’ double winners Cliff Jones,” he told Football London.
“I said the only player they lack now is someone like him, a winger. If they put in one player like [Eden] Hazard or Mahrez then wow and Cliff said he agreed.
“Tottenham have always played with wingers but this is the first time I’ve seen a Spurs side playing without them but still playing in the Spurs way. Push and run. Lots of crosses and shots at goal. They play to the strength of the players and that comes from the coach.”
Should Tottenham want to bring Mahrez to London, it could cost them upwards of £30 million after his important role in leading the Foxes to the Premier League title last term.
However, should Spurs decide to bring the Algerian to the club, Pochettino will no doubt face a headache in his selection processes, after a strong showing from his own squad, leaving who to drop a difficult choice.
