Manchester United vs Leicester City Preview – Prediction & Potential line-ups

Manchester United will return to Premier League action on Sunday as they welcome Leicester City at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils returned to winning ways against Leeds United last weekend just days after playing out a 2-2 draw with the same opponents.

The Elland Road encounter looked to be heading for a draw after both sides failed to break the deadlock until the 80th minute. But at that point, Marcus Rashford headed home the opener before Alejandro Garnacho added another to seal a 2-0 victory.

Rashford was also in top form in midweek when United travelled to Barcelona to play the knockout round playoffs of the Europa League.

The England international scored the equaliser before getting the assist for Jules Kounde’s own goal to help United secure a 2-2 draw

Erik ten Hag’s side were brilliant at Camp Nou and must be disappointed they couldn’t win the match. But they still have the edge in the tie before the second-leg on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Leicester City have seen a resurgence recently after enduring a largely disappointing 2022-23 season.

They stunned Tottenham Hotspur with a 4-1 victory last weekend, with four of their players earning their names on the scoresheet.

The Foxes conceded an early goal but a remarkable comeback saw them firing three goals before the break through Nampalys Mendy, James Maddison and Kelechi Iheanacho.

Harvey Barnes then added a late fourth as they claimed back-to-back wins in the Premier League.

Match preview

Manchester United

United have been excellent throughout this season, winning 14 of their 23 matches to be third in the league standings. Erik ten Hag may not want to talk about their title prospects but they are only five points off Manchester City.

The Red Devils have lost only one game since the return of club football in December. They have also been unbeaten at Old Trafford in their previous 16 matches.

Manchester United fixtures show they will face Barcelona in the second-leg of the knockout round playoffs on Thursday. Therefore, Ten Hag is expected to make changes for the home clash against Leicester.

Leicester City

Brendan Rodgers’ side are starting to find their feet in recent weeks after enduring a largely disappointing 2022-23 season. However, despite the recent good results, they are still six points above the relegation zone.

Leicester do have a good record against United though, as the Foxes have lost only one of their last six encounters with their opponents on Sunday.
