Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho still has Southampton’s Jose Fonte in his sights and will make another approach to land the veteran defender in January, according to The Sun.
The Red Devils bolstered their rearguard with the capture of Eric Bailly from Villarreal in the summer, but it remains to be seen just who his ideal partner is at centre-half.

Daley Blind and Chris Smalling have been given the opportunity to play by Mourinho this season, but both have been culpable of costly mistakes in the Premier League.
Fonte has been a crucial figure in Southampton’s rise from the Football League to become a top-half Premier League side and was part of the Portugal team that won Euro 2016 in the summer.
The 32-year-old was being linked with a move to United over the summer, with the latest report suggesting that the Red Devils are ready to rekindle their interest in him in January.
However, it does state that Mourinho will have to sell someone before making the move for Fonte, which could well see the end of Phil Jones’ time at Old Trafford.
