Manchester United will have to sell players in order to bring in new recruits, according to The Telegraph.
The Red Devils have already signed Jadon Sancho and are being tipped to soon complete the signing of Raphael Varane.
One player whom they should definitely sell this summer is Jesse Lingard. A sale of the Englishman will be a move that will suit both club and player.
Lingard had a career revival during the second half of last season. He scored nine goals on loan with West Ham, helping the Hammers to win a spot in the Europa League next season.
As a result of Lingard’s exploits last season, there is no doubt that he will be on top of West Ham’s summer transfer wishlist. There are also likely to be several other clubs looking to sign him.
Should United retain the services of Lingard, it will be difficult for him to regain his form.
While he was with United during the first half of last season, Lingard registered just three appearances for the club in all competitions and none in the Premier League.
He was clearly regarded as surplus to requirements by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. To some, his career at elite level was done.
A boyhood product of the United development system, the Red Devils should now be respectful to Lingard and allow him to continue his career elsewhere.
Lingard’s West Ham form saw him being linked with a place in the England European Championship squad. While he failed to make Gareth Southgate’s final cut, he could stand a chance of winning selection to England’s World Cup squad if he is as consistent as he was during the second half of last season.
