A number of the Manchester United squad face an uncertain future but Luke Shaw is close to signing a new deal, according to Sky Sports.
11 players are out of contract in the summer and there are questions over the futures of long-term club servants Phil Jones and Chris Smalling while Ander Herrera, Matteo Darmian, Andreas Pereira and Juan Mata could also be facing the chop.
Experienced duo Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young will have their form and fitness assessed prior to the end of the campaign before considering holding fresh talks.
It has been a difficult time at Old Trafford for Shaw since his move from Southampton in 2014. It looked as though he could be heading for the exit under current manager Jose Mourinho but the England international has forced his way back into his plans and has featured in seven of their first eight Premier League matches.
Shaw suffered a broken leg in September 2015 that kept him out of action for over seven months and following his return he made just 38 appearances in all competitions across two seasons.
His form for United this campaign led to a return to the England setup for the UEFA Nations League games against Croatia and Spain this month as well as contract talks with the club’s hierarchy, but he later had to withdraw from international duty due to injury.
The left-back was out of contract at the end of the season but it looks as though he will now commit his future to the Red Devils.
Talks are also ongoing with goalkeeper David de Gea and forward Anthony Martial, but the club have the option of triggering a 12-month extension on both of their current deals.
It has been an indifferent start to the season for United and there continues to be questions over Mourinho’s future but there appears to be renewed optimism after they came from two goals behind to beat Newcastle United on October 6.
Mourinho’s side will take on his former club Chelsea following the international break on October 20.
