Manchester United eye Nottingham Forest star to replace Harry Maguire

Manchester United are considering a move for Nottingham Forest star Murillo in the next Premier League transfer window

United have identified the 23-year-old as a potential replacement for Harry Maguire, according to the Daily Mail

The England international’s contract at Old Trafford will expire at the end of the season.

Maguire has been an important player for United since joining from Leicester City for an £80 million fee in 2019.

He has made 256 senior appearances so far, recording 17 goals and nine assists in the process.

Injury issues have limited his involvement this campaign, as he has made only four league starts.

Maguire is highly rated for his physicality, aerial dominance and leadership qualities, but he is now on the wrong side of 30 and the club may not renew his contract.

Murillo has established himself as one of the best young defenders in the Premier League since joining Forest in 2023.

He has made 96 appearances across all competitions for the Tricky Trees, with three goals and two assists to his name.

The Brazil international signed a new four-and-a-half-year contract in January 2025, but he is said to be open to a bigger challenge away from the City Ground next summer.

The centre-back could push for a move unless Forest qualify for the Champions League by winning the Europa League.

The Reds have been relatively better in Europe than in the English league, but their prospects of winning the Europa League look slim.

United haven’t been very convincing with their performances too, and they sacked Ruben Amorim as head coach earlier this month.

But they still sit seventh in the Premier League and could qualify for the Champions League.

Qualifying for Europe’s premier club competition could increase their chances of landing Murillo in the summer.
