According to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Premier League rivals Manchester United and Chelsea both made offers for Barcelona superstar Ivan Rakitic over the summer transfer window.
The Croatia international has been a revelation since joining the Camp Nou side from Sevilla back in 2014 and is now an essential member of the Catalan starting XI.
The latest rumblings suggests that both of the English clubs were interested in Rakitic over the off-season and made individual inquiries over his availability at different times during the summer.

Rakitic plays as one of two central midfielders ahead of Sergio Busquets in the Barcelona team and is most commonly paired with Andres Iniesta.
However, with Arda Turan in contention for a starting role at the Spanish champions splurging on Andre Gomes over the summer, there is competition for places.
That said, Barcelona are in a position that they will not have to sell a player that does not want to leave and as such, if there is any truth in the English pair’s desire to sign Rakitic it was a very ambitious move.
